(long, rambling post ahead! gotta get it all down before i forget!!!)
Mother's Day just happened to be Ryan's mom's 60'th birthday as well this year. So we had to do it up big to celebrate everything...and what better place to do that than the beach?!
We left on Thursday morning, made a quick stop at the outlets on the way, and checked in to our condo a little after 3:00. It was an easy drive, but we were all super excited to be out of the car and stretch our legs while we waited for everyone else to arrive.
Mom, Matt, Amanda, Uncle Nip, and Aunt Karen got there not too long after we did, and the fun began!!! That afternoon/evening we ran to the grocery store while Mom and the girls checked out the pool. After dinner, we all relaxed and had a blast playing The Game of Things, which turned out to be sooo much fun...we laughed so hard our stomachs hurt! (and then it became our evening ritual each night!) The girls did NOT want to go sleep this first night, which was frustrating considering they hadn't napped on the way there! Eventually we all turned in, and woke up ready to enjoy our first full day on vacation!
Friday morning we had a leisurely breakfast and then headed down to the pool. The girls thought the lazy river was, by far, the greatest thing EVER. Hailey didn't use a tube, just put her floaties on and let the current carry her around. Alyssa had a blast just hanging out in her tube, watching her Uncle Matt and her daddy be goofy! After a bit, we made our way down to the beach. The girls had a ton of fun taking turns letting daddy pull them around on the boogie boards. We discovered a huge jellyfish washed ashore (with a crab lunching on it) which provided us with quite a bit of entertainment! The girls had fun watching Uncle Matt and daddy play in the water, and then after a bit Alyssa joined in and did really well on the boogie board (and was just so proud of herself for going out with daddy!). After we had our fill of sand we headed back to the room for lunch and naps. Luckily the girls rested for us, and we ran out to do some tourist-y shopping with Matt and Amanda. After rest it was back to the pool for some more lazy river fun! This time, everyone came to watch, and it was so nice to just hang out together by the pool!
On Sat. we woke up, got dressed and headed out for some mini-golf, lunch, and shopping. The mini-golf place was really, really cool...they take you to the start of your course in a fun little train, and each hole was really interesting...not overly cheesy and typical mini-golf at all! It was great!
After we had our fill of being tourists, it was back to the room for a little quiet time, and some birthday cake. We took our time, celebrating with Mom for a while, and then it was back down to the pool and beach. After some more lazy river fun, we went down to build a little sand castle city, and then most of us relaxed while the girls played and Uncle Nip, Ryan, and Matt threw the football and frisbee around (which was very entertaining to watch considering the windy evening, and the super heavy, water filled, football!). In our down times, the girls had tons of fun roping anyone who would play into card game after card game...UNO, Go Fish, and Memory were favorites.
On Sunday, we all had quite a bit of packing to do, so we just hung around, took a few last minute pictures, and enjoyed our last morning together. We wished all the moms a Happy Mothers Day, and then we had to go our seperate ways. After everyone left, Ryan, the girls and I all took a detour to do a little shopping, and stop for a nice Mother's Day lunch. We hit the road after lunch, and then when we got home Ryan did all of the unpacking for me, which was the best Mother's Day present ever!!!
It was an awesome, wonderful, amazing weekend! It's going down in Porter family history as one of our most favorite vacations ever!!!
(I've got more pictures up on Facebook, so look for them there!)
